Learning about human sex trafficking was a topic I was very interested in at the being of this project and I still want to learn more. I find it so hard to believe that these horrible events are taking place so close to us. In our neighborhoods, city's, and even our local schools. There are many issues that we really focus on here in the United States that I feel should not be as talked about. Human sex trafficking is a topic/issue that is many times ignored or pushed out of sight, “ out of sight, out of mind”. With knowing this I wanted to research human sex trafficking even more. I find it interesting that our government can be so consumed in little things that don’t really matter and totally ignore something that is so terrible.
During this process, I got everything in on time. When I had an issue with it I would talk to Mrs. Wright. I enjoyed doing all this research even though at times it felt a little repetitive. I had a set up for each blog I would do the research Monday and Tuesday. Then I would confirm that I understood the blog and on Thursday I would write my blog, edit and turn it in. Some of the topics that we had to blog on were very hard to find on my topic. Many people don’t like to talk about there experiences or talk about human sex trafficking at all. People feel uncomfortable with it so they don’t want to approach the topic.
I have learned many horrifying facts about human sex trafficking. I will take many things from my research. One being that these crimes happens right in our own country. Another would be that the girls who are involved in these crimes are in such a down spot in their lives that they will believe a stranger. The stranger will make them feel wanted and loved, I can’t help but think that many of theses women are teenagers in high school and are being bullied to no end. This is one of the saddest things that I will take from this research. This women being the same age as me are being conned into being human sex slaves for these horrible men.
I want to become hospitality major. Many people think I should be a sociologist because I love helping people and make them feel wanted. I believe that I will carry these facts through my life. Knowing that our country is not innocent in the way of that human sex trafficking is happening all around us and we are just sitting here and letting it happen. I don’t feel any different toward my topic. If there would be any difference it would be that I know more and I want to help and make people more aware even more than before.
I very much enjoyed doing this topic. I was nice that we got to pick what we wanted to do because it made doing the blogs not as bad. Sometimes I would not want to do the blogs but as soon as I started to do the researcher I wanted to keep doing it. I want people to understand the horrifying related of human sex trafficking because then maybe it will bring people to do more about it. Overall, I will keep many things and I will never stop supporting human sex trafficking.

An article from Nation Public Radio talks about about a women being sex trafficked which was written to inform the reader about the sadness and fear of these events. This article takes place right in our own country. All these events are sad and scary, when writing “ One Women’s Story” the author uses the technique of pathos to hook the reader in to a emotional story. This article is targeting a women audience because when women hear about these kinds of acts they can understand and empathize with the victim. That is why the author is using pathos because they know the audience is mainly women and will trigger more emotional response.
The author uses ethos by showing who she get her information from. Some of these sources are the anti-trafficking network that helps victims of human sex trafficking have a network of people who can help them, and understand what they are going threw. Being a women author can increase the credibility of her words. If a man was to write the same article it might not have as much of an impact. Sara Learner, the author, of this article has written many articles about human sex trafficking. This illustrates her credibility because she has vast knowledge and research on this topic.
The significance of this article is to inform a large audience. Nation Public Radio can reach the whole United States listeners. In addition, this article is online for thousands to read. Having these two different ways of connecting and informing people about the epidemic of human sex trafficking is better than just one sources. The main points of this article is the lack of ability to help all victims because many are not U.S. citizens. Also, many of the pimps exploiting these women are promising a brighter future in the U.S. which in reality is not true.
Sara is using logos to persuade the audience to see how important this matter really is. Some of the ways she is doing this is by giving state department facts to support her arguments. Sara shows how human sex trafficking is happening right in our own country and the government is just pushing it under the rug and not giving it the attention it needs.

Choice Paper ( my Oppion)
I am choosing to write about my personal opinion on women
and sex trafficking. I want to demonstrate what I have learned and my personal opinion on the topic. Human sex trafficking is a terrible crime that needs to be stopped. In addition, since this is such a huge epidemic in the United States the public needs to be more aware about this issue.
There is so much corruption in our world and this is just another way that people are showing that they are cold. How can we just sit complacent and hear what happens to these poor women everyday without taking action?
Most of these women started out life being abused. They were not wanted at home and so they were on city streets. Many of these women do not have strong family supports and have a hard time trusting others. These women fall into the trap of the men who lure them in called pimps. Unfortunately, the cycle of abuse continues and their pimps brainwash them into thinking they have no other choice but to work as sex slaves. Many of these pimps promise a better life and more opportunities but in reality they are taken advantage of. The women never knew love and when the men came along and promised to love them, it was any easy sell.
There are many things in life that aren't fair. From my research on this kind of crime, I was surprised that sex trafficking has been going on for so long. Since the beginning of time when men could have multiply wives, they would use them to make many kids. The kids would work as servants and the women would do whatever the men told them including being their sex slave. Many of these women are a young a six years old when they are trafficked into the United States. Many of them come from outside of the United State and come from places like Asia and the Middle East. Sex trafficking is not considered a crime in these places; yet it is a major crime and the women think this is how they are suppose to be treated. I think that it’s a crime in it’s self that people think they can be treat other’s as object’s with no feelings.
There are many organizations that support the victims of human sex trafficking. These organizations will help the victims with making a new life, where they feel safe and wanted. Many of these victims’ experience post traumatic stress disorder which is a mental health disorders. The victims of sex trafficking have been through so much brutality. They are no longer emotionally stable and scared of men in most cases.
There are many questions that we can ask to try to figure out why these things happen. These women are dragged into sex trafficking because the pimp is offering them safety and love. Why don’t these women try to get out of the situation when they feel it is unsafe? The answer is they are scared and the pimps threaten their lives. These women are hurt physical and emotionally everyday till they are rescued. There are many very sick people in our world and we need to help these women avoid being victims of human sex trafficking.

Asking Big Questions
An estimated 14,500 to 17,500 women and children are trafficked into the United States each year (www.iast.net). Sex trafficking is a huge problem in the US today for women and children. In addition, It is estimated that children as young as seven years old are being exploited everyday. The severity of sex trafficking in the United States is very high. The punishment’s that are given are not harsh enough for the pimps or the men paying for these services compared to the trauma these women and children are experiencing.
Most pimps are sent to jail but there has not been a case of the death penalty for these exploiters. Many people believe that these men are horrible people and need to be killed. The death penalty is an emotional topic and many people don’t think that it is right. The fact that these men force women and children into having sex with strangers is inconceivable. A 2003 study in the Netherlands found that, on average, a single sex slave earned her pimp at least $250,000 a year (randomhistory.com). Obviously there is a high demand for these services and pimps are making a lot of money. In addition, pimps treat these women as slaves and objects. For example, a girl who had been sexually abused since a child was conned into trusting her new pimp. He trained her to think she could trust him, but he forced her into having sex. If she didn’t bring home the right amount of money he would beat her and once he even tried to bit off her finger.
The enforcers of these punishments are the justice systems and sex trafficking state and federal laws. The pimp is arrested and then taken to court to have their trial. Sometimes these crimes are so severe, that the pimps are sent to the Supreme Court. Sometimes these people are only sentenced to five years in prison. The federal law that protects these victims is called the Victims Protection Act. Many different states have made their own human trafficking laws. The pimps are not getting what they deserve because there are not enough organizations that are dedicated to these crimes. In order to fully protect these victims and make sure that the pimps are held accountable, non-profit organizations, law enforcement and knowledge in the community is important in the battle in these crimes against women and children.
The men who pay for these services are perpetuating to problem and giving pimps more power. The men who are paying for these services need to be more aware that they are exploiting these women. They are exploiting them sexually, emotionally and psychologically. According to Human Rights Team, trafficking is estimated to be a $7 billion dollar annual business. This is an example of supply and demand buissness that is not for a good cause. If the men who contribute to human sex trafficking cared about the health and well being of these victims, this would not be such an epidemic. However, they do not care about these victims and only care about the money and their sexual pleasure.
The pimps are not being held accountable for their actions. They are trafficking these women illegally by harboring, recruiting and exploiting them (CNN opinion). There are many organizations and law enforcement agencies that want to help these victims, yet they need to come together in the fight against human sex trafficking. This would not be considered a problem if there were not pimps and traffickers contributing to these crimes. We need to hold pimps more accountable and have organizations come together in the fight against human sex trafficking.

Current Events
Human Sex trafficking is modern slavery as it stands today. Even though it may not affect all of us on a daily bases it is still something that people worry about today in the United States. According to Mark Logan, of the US state department “although owning slaves has long been outlawed in the U.S., modern-day slavery, or human trafficking, still exists globally. The U.S. State Department estimates that thousands are exploited for sex and labor and trafficked into the states each year.” ( NPR.com)
The government is trying to stop this circle of events. Government has put many services into play for these victims. “The Office of Victim of Crime in the department of Justice has made eligible for benefit and services. For example, food stamps, medicade, provide work opportunities, support services, child care and income assistance (ASPE.hhs.gov).” These serrvices help the victims feel safer and help them come back to real life. In terms of minors who need help there are all types of service for them such as refugee camps, restettlement help with independent living. Foster care is a big way that the government helps minors. They have regular foster care, therapeutic foster care and group homes. This types of help will help these kids recover and to keep them safe.
There is a major need to put information out into the world about human sex trafficking because many people don’t understand what it is and how dangerous it is. When people understand what human sex trafficking is they disagree with it strongly. Reading many articles and not a single one has a argument on how human sex trafficking is good. There is not as much knowledge as there should be on this topic and we need to make it more known.

Background ( History)
The first act of human trafficking was polygamy, the act of having more then one partner. This meant that one man could have hundreds of wives. In the 15th century the Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, French and British people started all sorts of slave trade that led to human sex trafficking. In World War II the Japanese and German people were put into concentrations camps. In these camps many Japanese and German women were forced in being the soldiers personal sex slave.
Human trafficking does not require travel or transport from one location to another, but one form of sex trafficking involves international agents and brokers who arrange travel and job placements for women from one country.” (Human Trafficking,Wikipedia) The traffickers are referred to as pimps or madams.
Today, the victims of this crime are runaways, throwaway children and families struck by poverty. Adults or children that have run away from hard times or abuse can be easy targets. Parents who are in deep poverty crisis will sell their children to the traffickers. Sometimes the parents are unaware of what is going to happen and they think that they are giving their child a better life. Other parents know about what the traffickers do; yet they still sell their children. Families that are living in the projects or who are on the streets will believe anyone for a better life. This makes these family targets.
The innocent women and children that are targeted are promised marriage, employment, education or just a better life.
The victims are conned into believing that everything is going to get better for them. Sometimes traffickers will keep them in one room with many women and children living in it. They can also keep their victims enslaved by threats, blackmail, beating, rape, locking them up and starving them, as well as selling them and reselling them ( 4-ever.org). These people are trained the do this and off ten have others do it for them.
This is an illegal act that we need to learn about and find solutions. For one, this is a violation of human rights and it is just a dreadful thing that people in the United States are participating in.

introduction
The topic I chose was Female and child sex trafficking. Some of the background knowledge I have on this topic is that it usually involves women and children from other countries who are lied too by the trafficker’s who tell them this will better there lives or their current situation. Many are promised the opportunity of jobs and a stable life. In reality, they are held against their will and sold into sex trafficking. In Thailand the traffickers will go to rural areas and seek out young women from poorer economic backgrounds and take them to big cities such as Bangkok brainwashing the women into sex slavery. Bangkok is one of the largest hubs for human sex trafficking.
The reason I choose this topic is that it’s not mentioned much in our society today and it’s a big problem even if it doesn’t affect our daily lives. This is a violation of human rights because many of these women are held captive by their traffickers as slaves. The reason of choosing this topic was to further the knowledge of people around the world to help find a solution or stop the problem. This is something that many women and children go through and I would hope that we could stop it.
Of course, I am not an expert on this topic, which leads to me having some big questions. 1. Where does most trafficking occur? 2. Are there any organizations that are trying to stop it? 3. How are these people tricked into doing these kinds of deeds? 4. Does it occur in the United States? 5. Where does it happen in the United States?
